Poster Project

The ad poster project was hard for me conceptually. It took quite a while for me to come up with an idea. But when finally the idea hit I was set. The meaning behind my project came from talking to a friend at work. Now, I don’t care for politics at all, but my co-worker is very political and likes to talk about how much better republicans are. He often brings up topics and issues that are in the media regarding the upcoming election. There is however one problem with that, all he can talk about is what the issues are, but nothing about what they entail. It was then that I realized that a lot of people I know only know what the topics and issues are called, but nothing about them, no solid facts or data to back up which side they are on. That’s when I got my idea about people knowing as much about current events as they would find in a short commercial. With the election coming up I went with a political current event for my poster, and had to use a tagline that almost anyone who watches television would be able to recognize. The reaction my poster should bring out in people is hopefully to read a newspaper article or one online, something that actually gives information and facts, not just provides you with a headline. People far choose a side on an issue simply by the title, without learning anything about it As far as the technical skills used to produce my poster, it’s pretty simple stuff, just using the lasso tool, as well as the text tool, and having a simple understanding of layers. Oh, and I have thought about the fact that I’m promoting a newspaper in a digital class, it has also been pointed out to me, and I’m ok with it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my project in its simplicity, and maybe, just maybe, it’ll make you think about what you really know, and if you are one of the current events commercialists.

In my continued search of ads for the project i found myself really digging the following ads, now i am sorry if they offend, but they do stick with you and get their point across quite well. I love the water droplet expanded to look like a explosion, great stuff, and since i don’t drink the first one isn’t hypocritical

   

Reaction to Intro and Chapter one of “Digital Art” by Christiane Paul

This is a really good book, one of my favorite text books ever. The beginning that we read is really just a lot of history of the mix of digital media into theart world and how it fits into different kinds of art, how it has affected art. Being a photographer, i understand how the digital world has come into my field, through cameras, processing, and program alterations to photographs once they have been taken. A major effect of the digital uprise is that it changes how many people view things, some of us artists see things not only as they are, but what they could be with some of our digital alterations. It also changes how people receive images and messages from those images. Our culture is so visually based and images and art are being entered into so many locations previously unthought. Images are being copied thousands of times over and alterered to fit in various locations, something that was just not possible without the rise of the digital or new media. And of course, new media has been able to blur the lines between mediums. Today we can combine paintings and photographs, put text anywhere, exaggerate or diminish abnormalities. Today the changes we can make to a piece of art using a computer are limitless. I know some people feel that takes away from what the traditional work of art is, but for so many more it just expands the horizons of what can be created, forever pushing the boundaries of possibility. The chapter spends a lot of time on the works of early digital artists who played with the limits of what they knew, paving the way for us, the modern era digital artists, who truly can do anything we want. From altering what is to creating things that could never be except for on our screens. Oh, this digital art thing is something i can not wait to get more into and just use all of my everything to create things never imagined.

Ad Analysis

I had more fun looking at all these ads than i thought i would. The only ads i ever really pay attention to are “cause” ads, that either bring to light an issue or attack one. Product ads are so overused that they barely even register with me anymore. Being a cyclist, and knowing guys who have gotten hit, this ad really stood out to me

It’s obviously an awareness ad for simply being aware when driving. It’s effective because it’s direct and brings to mind the part of the accident that isn’t shown, the rider. Using a red car helps to draw your eye to the center of the image and the bike lane takes you from the wording, to the scene, and back to the words. The image speaks for itself, and the tag line puts it simply. Good Ad.

I’d do it again

Hey guys, sorry i haven’t been in class this week, on fri day night there was a bit of an incident. I was defending a young lady from some drunken fellows in denver and woke up in the hospital. I have pretty severe head trauma and needed stitches in my lip from where my teeth went through it. I saw my doctor today and he said that my dizziness, headaches and confusion stemming from short term memory loss could last for 1 to 3 months, but hopefully 3 at the longest. I am very sorry to be missing class though, i was just starting to have fun with them and getting my life on track. The worst right now is that i can’t ride my bike for about a month, and i can’t drive for about a week or two. I can only train on the stationary bike in my living room, which is still cool, it gives me a headache, but it just isn’t the same. But you know what, the girl is fine, so like the title of this post says, “i’d do it again”, because for a guy like me, it’s worth it.
